ABOUT

A place to slow down, learn, practice and connect.

Rope Land is a Hungarian rope festival that we organize to create a space where you can learn, connect and play in a relaxed, friendly environment.

You can find classes appropriate for your skill level and learn in small groups with the tuition of experienced instructors. You can also attend performances and practice with others, or just kick back and relax away from the noise of the big city.

01

Learn

Classes are organised for 3 different skill levels, so you can find the best fit for your own skills, learn new things and deepen your knowledge of basic techniques with the help of experienced presenters.

02

Connect

Rope is a great tool to find new and exciting ways to connect with other people, or even yourself. We hope to give you opportunities for finding new depth in partnerships you already have, as well as a space to meet like-minded folks and form new relationships.

03

Practice

Practicing alone is important, but for many practitioners, sharing the experience with people who have the same passion for rope is what makes it truly fulfilling. Here, you have the opportunity to do exactly that.

04

Explore

There are many different ways to do rope, many different aspects you can place your focus on, and every practitioner has their own way of going about tying. That's why community can be so exciting: not only can you nerd out about knots, but you can explore different approaches, different dynamics and different styles.

What is shibari?

Shibari is an art form that originated in Japan with strict shapes and positions, putting its emphasis on technique, exposure and eroticism. As it gained bigger following around the world, our view of tying changed: in modern shibari, we focus on connection, trust, safety, and clear communication, often mixing traditional techniques with western approaches.

  • Technique

There are many ways to go about your basics in rope, from sticking strictly to the classic Japanese styles to experimenting with mixing in sailor knots or western bondage. Whatever direction you choose and whichever background you come from, what sets rope aside from other forms of bondage is its focus on precision, technique, and attention to detail.
  • Connection

Whether you just practice a pattern or build a session based on sensations, shibari is always a deeply connective experience. It doesn't have to be erotic (but of course it can be), and it doesn't have to be dramatic, but it can create a special closeness and connection between tying partners that looks different for everyone, and that is exactly what makes it so exciting.
  • Safety

Physical and emotional safety is a fundamental part of modern shibari, and we place particular emphasis on including essential safety information in the workshops at this festival.

You can join us as an experienced practitioner or as a complete beginner, we'll meet you wherever you are in your rope journey.

Safety & Approach

Our top priority is the safety of both riggers and models. We foster a space built on trust, consent, and responsible practice, with a strong focus on physical and emotional safety. We believe that clear communication, mutual respect, and awareness of personal boundaries are fundamental both for riggers and models to be good practitioners. While technical skill is important, respect and communication remain the core principles of modern shibari. By creating a safe and supportive environment, we enable exploration, connection, and meaningful dynamics, which is exactly what we strive to provide.
